Melvin Warner, Professor Emeritus of Clarinet and Chamber Music at Northern Illinois University, was associate principal clarinet with the St. Louis Symphony and for many years served as guest principal clarinet with the San Diego Symphony. Currently, he is the principal clarinet of the Chicago Sinfonietta and has performed frequently with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He received the B.M. and M.M. degrees from the University of Southern California and taught at San Diego State University and the University of California at San Diego. He currently serves on the summer faculty of Idyllwild Arts.

     Warner made his solo debut with the Oakland Symphony when he was 15. Active as a chamber musician, Warner was a founder of the Pacific Woodwind Quintet and the Quintetto da Camera, which won first place in the prestigious Coleman Chamber Auditions. He has also been guest artist with the Arianna, Shanghai, and Vermeer string quartets. Warner has participated in summer music festivals such as the Bay Chamber Concerts in Maine, Mainly Mozart Festival in San Diego, and the Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, Illinois. He is presently a member of MidsummerÕs music, a chamber ensemble performing in Door County, Wisconsin each summer.
