Leonard Sharrow was one of the world’s best-known bassoonists, having been principal bassoon with the NBC Symphony under Arturo Toscanini and the Chicago Symphony under Fritz Reiner.  Joseph Polisi is President of The Juilliard School and has performed extensively in the United States as bassoon soloist and chamber musician.

This is the world’s first two-contrabassoon CD.
  Susan Nigro’s last two CDs on Crystal were the first contrabassoon solo CDs and have been hugely successful.  Burl Lane is the contrabassoonist with the Chicago Symphony. William Eddins is Resident Conductor of the Chicago Symphony. This is an extraordinary CD  which customers will be interested in for  musical values as well as to test the low end fidelity of their speaker systems.

Danilo Lozano, a founding member of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, has recorded on all Hollywood Bowl releases. Carolyn Beck is a champion of new music, having commissioned and performed new solo works throughout the United States.  This CD has the premiere recording of the Andre Previn Sonata and three works written specifically for Beck. The other works enjoy first recordings also.  She has been principal bassoonist of the Buffalo Philharmonic and the Orquesta Sinfonica del Principado de Asturias in Spain, is presently principal bassoonist with the Redlands Symphony and the San Bernadino Symphony, and also performs with many other concert and studio recording orchestras in the Los Angeles area.

David Muller has been principal bassoon with the Mexico City Symphony and all major Southern California orchestras, including the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Pacific Symphony, and Long Beach Symphony. Rose Chen has performed as soloist and chamber musician in Canada, Austria, Brazil, France, Israel, Hong Kong, and China.

Mille Morte roughly translates to "a thousand little deaths" and refers to the difficulty and emotional high points of the music, there being a climax in almost every phrase. All the pieces, indeed, are intense as well as beautiful. This program represents some of the best-known recital works for bassoon as well as some fabulous lesser-known works
